What is Eligibility to Become CA
The first question that comes to your mind would be, who can become a chartered account? As soon as you pass class 12th from subjects like science, commerce, and arts, you can easily prepare for Chartered Accountant. But most of the commerce student prefer to prepare chartered accountant. This is because you read the subjects which are similar to the 12th standard. That’s why it becomes easier for commerce students for preparing CA.
Also, there is no fixed percentage for preparing Chartered Accountant. Whether you have got 33% or 80% in the 12th class, you are eligible for CA exams.
Many students have doubt that can they prepare for CA after graduation. So the answer is, yes, they also can prepare for chartered accountant after their graduation degree. But there are certain eligibility criteria for graduation or post-graduation students.
To become a Chartered Accountant after graduation degree, you have to get a minimum of 55% marks in their graduation final exams. Or if you’re non-commerce students, then you have to get a minimum of 60% in their graduation degree.
Stages to becoming Chartered Accountant After 12th
So if you want to become CA after 12th class, then you have to pass 4 level
- CA Foundation
- CA Intermediate
- Three Year Articleship
- CA Final
1. CA Foundation
This is an entry-level course for a chartered accountant in India. It was also known as the Common Proficiency Test (CPT).
The exam of CPT is held in the months of May and November. If you want to give exam in May months, then you have to do registration in the months of December. Or if you want to give exam in November, then you have to do registration in the month of June.
The exact dates of the exams are changed every year. So you have to check the official exam dates on their official website called https://www.icai.org/.
CA Foundation Exam Pattern

2. CA Intermediate
Suppose if you clear CA foundation course, then you can do register yourself for Intermediate exams. In this, there are 2 groups called group 1 and group 2. You have to give 4-4 exams in both groups.
As I said earlier, there are 4 stages to become a Chartered Accountant. If you want to be eligible for 3 years of Articleship stage, then you have to clear one of the group exams of CA Intermediate.
Along with this, you will be given training about Information Technology and Communication Skills for 4 weeks. It is very important to complete this training and this is also known as (ICITSS) Integrated Course on Information Technology and Soft Skills.
So if you clear one or both groups of exams and complete the training of ICITSS, then only you’re eligible for 3-years Articleship.
3. 3-Year Articleship
If you have completed the above 2 stages successfully, then you will enter on Articleship. The meaning of Articleship is joining of Chartered Accountant firm. Here you work and understand the process Chartered Accountant. You will understand here about how a chartered accountant works and manage their works.
This 3-year is must and you need to have clear this 3 year of Articlship. Without completing this stage, you can’t be able to become a Chartered Accountant.
If you have completed 2.5 years in Articleship, then you can now enroll for CA Finals.
4. Finals Course
As soon as you finish your 3-year articulation, you come to the finals. There are also 2 groups in it, which are 400 marks are allotted for each group. This is the final stage for becoming a Chartered Accountant. You can download the PDF syllabus of Finals course from the below link.
Although, the candidate can appear in CA Final only when he has undergone through GMCS and Advanced ITT. These training will be for 4 weeks which is similar to as you have taken on CA Intermediate.

What is the Salary of CA?
The starting salary of a chartered accountant depends on the company that you choose to join. There are so many factors that decide your salary. Indian and International salary packages are different.
If we talk about an average salary, a chartered accountant in India can earn around Rs. 7 lakhs to Rs. 12 lakhs per year easily. But the International packages are higher than the Indian package. An International package can be range up to 60 lakhs to 100 lakhs per year.
You can earn even much more if you open your own CA firm.
